JAMES AYLWARD, bassoon
JAMES AYLWARD (b. 1979) is a VCA (1999) graduate now based in the Netherlands and specializing in contemporary music. He plays regularly with Ensemble Musikfabrik and the Elision Ensemble. He has also played in many concerts and festivals all over Germany and abroad and worked with ASKO-Schönberg Ensemble, Doelen Ensemble, Netherlands Wind Ensemble, Ensemble Kollektiv, Berlin, and soloist with Festival Schwelbrand, Berlin.
He has also performed many contemporary solo pieces in various concert series, including working with composers on new solo works. Next year, he will appear as a soloist with the SWR Orchester in a new work for baroque ensemble and symphony orchestra by Turgut Ercetin. Other highlights include attending the Stockhausen courses 2017 in Kürten, where he won a prize for his performance of In Freundschaft; Solo recital programs for Forma Leipzig and Unerhörte Musik in Berlin and Moderne Muziek, Nijmegen; solo with Festival Schwelbrand.
James is also completing his PhD at Edith Cowan University, where he is researching alternative approaches to extended techniques.
His Masters Diploma was obtained in 2007 from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He was Associate Principal Bassoon in WASO from 2001-2005.
